Updated Jan 2008. Interview with Maura Holden by Daniel Mirante
Combining both excellent draftsmanship with a lucid sense of colour, Maura depicts the secret vistas of the collective psyche, the sunken, honeycombed ruins of mysterious ancient civilisations, the paradisiacal and primordial bliss of our ancestors living within a shamanic dreamtime

Japi Honoo describes her imagery as stories of her “state of mind”. Her stories express “feeling out of time and belong to every age.” For Japi, digital techniques can assume the same function as the paint brush, enabling her to create new worlds and possibilities for the interpretation of femininity.

Stretching out like one of the Buddha’s great bejeweled parasols, the term Visionary Art encompasses a wide variety of styles, genres, periods, and degrees of abstraction. Definitions abound, but here is my hard crystal: visionary art is art that resonates with visionary experiences, those undeniably powerful eruptions of numinous and multidimensional perception that suggest other orders of reality.

The hummingbird is the quintessential symbol of the Nectarian form of art. In Brazil the hummingbird is called the ‘beija-flor’ – kisser-of-flowers. This beautiful poetic term describes the deep sensuality of the intimate engagement with Nature.

The transformation toward transpersonal awareness beyond historical constructs is what defines the times and the themes of contemporary visionary art : the emergence of a humanity that experiences its existence through cosmic and gaian relatedness, which exists in the ever renewing cyclical time of cosmic play, beyond the socially constructed dialectic of linear technological progress.

Art is like giving new life to things which already exist, only filtered by the artists mind. But I am learning right now, that this process of filtering out, is the essential lesson an artist has to learn. To pick things out of unlimited possibilities, arrange them in a new way, to give new meaning to them, and their own autonomy.

Oleg Korolev has emerged as one of the most interesting and accomplished visionary artists of the present time. “Beautiful rhythms come when fear is gone and affection leaves.Perception is clear when the mind is calm, and becomes pure and virgin, when dualities are overcome. Consciousness returns to its Source… Son returns to his Father.”
