H. R. Giger is one of the world’s foremost artists of Fantastic Realism. His airbrush innovations and ‘biomechanical’ aesthetics have been highly influential upon western culture.
In an exceptionally rare gesture, HR Giger has granted Triptykon the use of his dramatic painting Vlad Tepes (work no. 412, 200 x 140 cm, acrylic on paper on wood, 1978). It is the artist’s first authorized appearance on an album cover in 17 years, and the second time he collaborates with Warrior (following Celtic Frost’s To Mega Therion album in 1985).
All the essential elements of twentieth century’s Zeitgeist are present in an inextricable amalgam in Giger’s biomechanoid art. In his inimitable style, he masterfully merges elements of dangerous mechanical contraptions of the technological world with various parts of human anatomy.
