In general the Slavonic native religions have a lot in common with the rest of the Indo-European spiritual traditions and have a direct connection to Vedanta. A Russian word Veda (t’) means “to know” or just a “knowledge”, “awareness”, came from Sanskrit.

Lila has charted the contemporary visionary and sacred art movement by talking directly to those involved. Explore the themes, motifs, inspirations and approaches to creativity found in visionary art.

The artist’s life may seem to be unfolding like an archetypal legend where dreams and events are interwoven in a perfect dance. The core of these visions is an ordered and centered life with intentions of understanding and integrity. The visionary art that comes from this base is what we also call “contemporary sacred art”.

Odd Nerdrum sentenced to prison – sign the petition for his freedom

Aug 18, 2011 admin in News 10 Comments

Sign the petition for his freedom!
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/freeoddnerdrum/

Odd Nerdrum is an International treasure, some even say a savior of the art world. He is a man of integrity and a stand against what many see as the essential emptiness of modern art and life. Too put a man of his age – especially a benevolent genius such as Odd – away in a prison cell for some dubious tax claims is unjust and unfair and a crime in itself. Odd Nerdrum is more than an artist, he is a symbol of pure individualism and that, in itself, is the highest hope for art and man.

three men on a boat by Odd Nerdrum

My mentor, Odd Nerdrum has been sentenced to two years in prison. He is a man who has dedicated his life’s work to defending human dignity, a man who has given his profound knowledge freely to thousands of students over the years without charging a single penny, a man who generously opened his home and family to my wife and I when we lost our jobs in New York City in the midst of the financial crisis and were quite literally homeless…
This man has been sentenced to two years in jail for tax evasion for $1.5 million USD in taxable income. At his age (67), a jail sentence could actually kill him.

If Odd Nerdrum loses his appeal against the tax fraud conviction, unfortunately he will not be allowed to paint in jail.

Absolutely ridiculous. How long must we suffer from these ridiculous bureacrats? Setting up a fund under the circumstances is oth honest and honerable, really the right thing to do. What part of his explanation do they not understand?

Hello- for you nice people, who admirer Odd Nerdrum like me, first I thank you all,and next I have an idea, since many of as are Artists, why don’t we donate some paintings, and make a big show for him and raise the money that they say he owed, and throw it to their face, and end all this .you see if we are late they may put him to the jail ,think a jail, he can’t even paint ?That will definitely kill him .I don’t understand a country from Scandinavia acts such barbarism in 2011? And if you nice friends wants to demonstrate her in US I also willing to go to the Norwegian embassy with you .thank you very much.

He could paint, I think he just wouldnt be able to sell any of the work he paints. If he cant even do that though, extremly unfair. I would imagine if he was a ‘post mordernist’ artist rather than a Kitsch Painter, he probably wouldnt even be in jail

Just want to add my voice to the multitudes who support Odd Nerdrum, though for the life of me I can’t find words to adequately express my disgust at this outcome.
