Film

The evening begins at 8:30 pm with Black Cat Productions presenting the film “What About Me?” the latest visionary musical collaboration from the creators of double-Grammy nominated 1 Giant Leap. This visionary project visits over 50 locations in an exploration through music, the complexities of human nature on a global scale, and reveals how we are all connected through our creativity and beliefs, but most of all through our madness. Covering universal topics such as God, Sex, Death and Money, “What About Me?” features an incredibly diverse collection of collaborators from Noam Chomsky to Ram Das, Maxi Jazz to Tim Robbins, Billy Connolly to Michael Stipe, Eckhart Tolle to Baaba Mal, Deepak Chopra to Tom Robbins, plus KD Lang and Michael Franti, with Bedouin Musicians, Chinese rappers, Gabonese Pygmies, Tuvan throat singers, Egyptian folk musicians, Japanese taiko drummers, and many others. This is a poignant, emotional and entertaining time capsule of humanity at its most inspirational.

Dance Workshop

Following the film, the Ekstasis Dance Collective, led by Luna Ravenchilde, will guide us through a Winter Solstice Dance Ceremony, a celebratory journey into the darkness to reclaim the light, letting go of what does not serve us from the previous year, and bringing in the new. It’s a healing journey through the body, emotions and spirit using movement, breath, intention and primal rhythm patterns. Ecstatic Dance offers us the opportunity to move beyond our perceived limitations and constrictions into a space where we come into contact with our innate wholeness and unity with everything that exists. Move beyond the duality in our everyday thinking, our inner conflicts, the disparate parts of ourselves, and find peace in the stillness of our soul.

Music and Dance

Featured musical artist is Toronto-based Shen. Taken from the arcane Taoist term for ‘refined energy’ or ‘depth’, Shen is Noah Pred’s outlet for low-tempo explorations of forward-thinking computer music. Drawing inspiration from the eastern aesthetics of botanical architecture and geomantic techniques, Shen evokes organic structures through lush ecologies of synthetic chords, deep textures and minimalist machinations. Shen’s unique interpretation of the downtempo genre rapidly evolved into a distinctly recognizable sound, incorporating elements of electro, dub and minimal techno. With tracks appearing on numerous compilations, Shen’s debut full-length CD ‘Outlines’ was released in December 2006 on Native State Records. Noah Pred will be performing a live Shen set mixed with DJ-ing.

Beginning the music performance at midnight is Kaminanda. Kaminanda is music producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Stephen Medeiros. Stephen’s zest for life, wholeness and music comes through in the frequencies synergizing the ecstatic state of our collective dream. Stephen Medeiros has collaborated with Chameleon on guitar (1999-2001) and drummed up a tribal storm with Wassabi Collective (2001-2004), followed by DJ-ing tribal dance for the last 3 years. Awakened to the transformation of humankind through years of experience of touring, playing live and dancing, Kaminanda is now producing original tracks and preparing to initiate a new phase featuring live sets, and is presently furthering his exploration with African rhythms with the Zimbabwe fusion music group Zimbamoto.

From 15 years as first a ground-breaking hip hop artist and producer to electronic music producer playing live-PA and originals, to now a versatile DJ of many styles, Mazeguider lays down a unique journey, distinguished by a deeply feeling taste for a meaningful and compelling dance-floor frenzy.
