		<description>Abert,
Thank you for the reply. This was the first paper i wrote as a freshman in my intro to ethnobotany class. Yep, wild ideas and fun! There is an associated powerpoint that was linked to the original paper that i would be happy to forward if you like. I dont know how this got posted on the web actually because i took it down from my old site at FLC specifically because i didnt want the world to read all my wild ideas and unbacked rants. Now, after having actually traveled to South America and having tried Wilca in Bolivia and elsewhere i would paint a much different picture. Oh well. Have fun!

<description>This is a very controversial read for me. Much of what is passed off as proven seems to be conjecture and hyperbolic at best without far better confirmation than has been had for such aspects as the tryptamine connection to dreaming.
The idea that bufotenine is being changed into DMT is also a highly suspect claim. The paper makes a statement about applying a flame to a molecule, has the author ever tried to aim a flame at a single molecule? It is like trying to put planet on the head of a pin.

It seems insinuated that the bufo+fire=DMT explains that the bufo turns into DMT in the body, yet many modes of ingestion employ no fire. Heat treated anadenathera seeds do not show a conversion of bufotenine into DMT and the effects of smoking the vilca do not differ from other routes of ingestion.

Still I enjoyed reading this paper despite the suspect claims and conclusions. Thanks for writing it!
